The 5 W’s – A writer’s version of FAQs
Who have you worked for?
My current and former clients include:
- Art Van Furniture
- BBDO Detroit
- The Collective Event Studio
- Events.com
- Mary Ann Productions
- Our Lady of Refuge
- Parsonage Events
- The Pet Beastro
- Portfolium
- Rochester Media
- Wish Upon A Wedding (nonprofit)
What kind of writer are you?
My title goes by many different names:
- Content writer – creates print and digital content for companies to provide information or showcase the products of services they offer
- Copywriter – generally writes printed marketing pieces, such as brochures, direct mail advertisement, and catalogs. Copywriters can also produce website content, blog posts, sponsored articles, and newsletters
- Ghostwriter – usually anonymous and writes content that is published under someone else’s name
My writing experience is a combination of all three, which is why I like to think of myself as a wordsmith. I creatively arrange words and ideas to deliver awesome products for my clients.
However, I am not a grant writer, technical, or medical writer. If you need someone to do manuals, proposals, etc., then I’m probably not the writer you’re looking for.
What types of services do you provide?
I develop content and copywriting for websites and blogs, brand identity, product descriptions, proofreading, and editing. And while I have an analytical eye, I do not code or design; I am strictly a wordsmith.
What are your rates?
Bespoke communications mean I treat each client and project as its own entity. I won’t offer my clients cookie-cutter options and the pricing agreed upon will reflect that.
What form of payment do you accept?
If chocolate or coffee paid the bills, I’d gladly accept those as payment. Since they don’t, I will accept either a check or electronic payment via Venmo. Terms for the payment are outlined at the time a contract is signed.
What are your hours of operation?
My day-to-day hours will vary based on the project and/or client I am working with. If a client is in a different time zone, I will make myself available to discuss the project. I also believe it is healthy to have boundaries. So, unless an understanding has been arranged with the client beforehand, I prefer not to work past 6 p.m. (EST) or during the weekend.
When do you take time-off?
Much like my hours of operation, my vacation time is based on the deadlines for the project and/or client I am working with. Rest assured, any time-off will be communicated well in advance. And no, I will not answer work-related emails while I’m on vacation. Would you?
Where are you located?
I am based out of metro Detroit, but with a strong Wi-Fi connection, I can work from anywhere!
And finally…
How do you pronounce your business name?
It is pronounced ‘sa-lee-ˈhō.’
